Committee on Nominations Report

Seeking Potential Leaders

By Mary Jane Reetz, Chair of the Committee on Nominations

The Committee on Nominations is looking to fill leadership positions. Our current President Cindy Saufferer and Secretary Linda Brinster complete their second terms this year, creating an opportunity to elect new officers for those positions.

We also are looking for leaders to fill the following appointed vacancies:

  • Education and Interpretation
  • Committee on Nominations (5 positions)
  • Communications Coordinator
  • Technology Coordinator
  • Label Order Processor
  • Officer Update Processor
  • Legacy Liaison

Your help needed

The Committee needs your help identifying potential leaders. If you have recommendations, complete the “Potential Leader Form” below or contact Mary Jane Reetz directly, especially if you’d like to be considered for these roles.

If you need more information regarding the requirements and responsibilities related to these roles, pages 34-36 of the United Methodist Handbook 2021-24: Constitution & Bylaws has a brief summary related to elected officers under the heading “Leadership” and pages 37-41 under the heading “Committees” details functions of some elected and appointed positions. You can find free downloads of the Handbook and more details about appointed and elected roles here.

Be aware that some of the Handbook information has been adapted for our context. Also, note that this Handbook was published in 2020 and a new Handbook with updated bylaws is planned as we move forward beyond 2024.

We will be contacting current appointed leaders whose terms have not expired to ask if they want to continue in their positions. If you are an appointed leader wanting to continue in your post, feel free to contact Mary Jane by email or phone (218-828-4277) to let her know.

Slate of Nominees

The Committee is required to present a slate of nominees for officers and appointees at the Executive Team meeting in August for approval. After that approval, a final slate of elected officer nominees will be published in the Fall issue of the Fresh Connection along with a slate of appointed nominees. MN Conference UWFaith members will vote to elect officers at the Annual Meeting in October and affirm appointed nominees as well.

Mission Opportunity

Gathering Kits for UMCOR Can your UWFaith local unit or District collect supplies for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)? Supplies can be brought to any UWFaith gathering or meeting for assembly. Several Districts are doing so at their Spring Gatherings. You can also assemble kits with your local unit or District. Supplies and kits will be collected at Annual Conference and taken to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. From there they will be distributed around the world where they are needed most. You can also find instructions for assembling kits and descriptions of supplies on either   the UMCOR website  or  the Midwest Mission  website.
